Gerard Borderick
A farmboy that once dreamed of becoming a wizard
Gerard grew up in the small town of Klien Stadt. His father and mother had hopes of a simple life for their young son. They taught him how to work the land and tend the animals on thier farm. Early on though, is was evident that this was not the life that Gerard dreamed of.
The kindly old wizard that taught in the area cuaght Gerard's attetion at a young age with his tricks and amazing feats. From that moment on he spent all the time he could spare in the company of the old man, much to his parent's dismay. When he finally reached the age that permitted him to study, he did just that. He and the old man became as family, the old grandfather and the wide eyed grandson.
It was evident to the old man however, that much to his disapointment, Gerard had not the gift of magic, and would never be the wizard that he wished to someday be. Gerard continued to study and the old man grew more troubled that the truth would break the spirit of the now young man when he finally discoverd it. True, Gerard had managed a few small cantrips here and there, but he was never able to perform the great feats that some of the others that had the same amount of experience were achieving.
Finally, the day came for the truth to be laid before him. The old man sat down on a starry autmn night by the fire outside his home. Gerard walked up and sat near him. He listened as the old man told him the thing that he had dreaded to be true. But then, a glimmer of hope. The name of an old friend of the wizard. Someeone that was from a far off land, a land of wizards, sorcerers, and scholars. Perhaps there he would find the secret to unlocking what he sought.
With all he could take with him he said goodbye to his parents and at the age of 16 set out to a place known as Phocacia. After a very hard and long journey he made his way there and found the scholar of which the old man spoke of and together they searched for a way to attain that which he desired most.
He spent 2 years serving the scholar in return for his aid. Depression set in on Gerard. He was begining to lose hope very quickly and discovered comfort in the taverns on The Docks. Darkness crept in on the young man, and just when it seemed that it would take him whole, word reached him of an army assembling in his homeland. Giving up on his search and longing to go home he set out again and found a place for himself among The Red Legion in the most rag tag group in the army.
Not sure of his place in the world at this point he follows what suits him. Contact from his parents has been one of the few things that brightens his spirits other than the pubs and taverns of the area. He still waits, the last sliver of hope wanning, for a chance to be what he saw from the eyes of a five year old boy, a truley great wizard. But the stregth of his youth and farming have lead him to martial combat. What will take place next he has no idea.... just a dream.
