Twilight Of Post Spiders (Part 2)
The swamp was again unforgiving as we slopped our way through. Most of us were weak with spider venom, and something as simple as carrying the unconcious children became an ordeal. The children would become stuck in the mud and it would take two of us just to free them. A miserable experience to say the least.

Finally we made it back to town. The children were reunited with their parents, who were very greatful for our efforts. The town decided to celebrate the return of their children with, of course, a party. Never have I been to such a celebration. All were enjoying good food, good company, wonderful music, and of corse, plenty of the local brew. Sandra and Gerard were a staple at the keg, and seemed to be enjoying themselves quite a bit. Mari and I stayed a little farther from the crowds, not exactly feeling like we belonged in the humans festivities. As for Nickoli, he slept some much needed sleep.

In the middle of all this gayety, out of the darkness stumbles a man who has just had his party ruined. He is one of the party guests and he is covered in blood, his blood. He had gone off to relieve himself, and was jumped by a group of kobolds. Blood flowed from his wounds and I used Aesias gift of healing to help keep him alive. He had escaped just in time to warn us of their impending attack. We were lucky to have it, because we were still weak, and needed all the warning we could get.

No sooner had the music stopped than the kobolds appeard. Surrounding the town and blocking nearly every venue of escape. Kobolds are sly little critters, but none too subtle. They attacked anyone that moved. We took the brunt of the assault, but even as they tried to escape some of the townsfolk were cut down in their tracks. Sandra and Gerard did all they could to keep the beast off of my flanks, but there were too many of them. I was surrounded by spearman and one particularly nasty fellow trying to hack me apart with a great axe. In the hands of a kobold, a great axe is rather comical, but I cannot deny the death it dealt.

We fought bitterly till all of the kobolds lay dead. All of us suffered grevious wounds at the hands of the tiny spears and sling stones. If not for us having some small time to rest prior to their attack, as well as Sandras healing, none of us would have survived. Once things settled down a little we were able to assess the damages. Five townspeople had been killed, but there was no damage to any of the buildings. Nothing had been disturbed in the way of plunder or loot. This was no ordinary kobold raid.

I think it not a coincidence that we invaded the spider cave this morning, and were attacked by kobolds this night. I believe there must be a connection between the kobolds and the note. Either Mordgron or Jasmine is responsible for this, and for all these people have suffered. I want to make them pay for what they have done. No one deserves to live in fear like these people have. I lived in fear at one time in my life and the experience has haunted me ever since. I can only hope that our departure will leave these people safe. Mordgron has his poison, so maybe he will leave these people in peace.

I could not protect you then, but I can protect others now.
