Get While The Getting Is Good Part 2
journal
This lattest patrol, human, we were able to elude easily but there is another "tail" that is proving far more stuborn. Cidra spotted her while we were moving through The Market district. It was suggested that she use her powers to discern if any of the items at market this day appeared to be magical in nature, which was not to be but the glint she did catch came from this well dressed woman who, because of which, appeared strangly out of place. Garrett and I spoke for a moment to decide a plan of action which was that he lead the group on and I slip into the crowd and follow our follower so as to see and gather what information I could. It's odvious that she was not Atman Defense League but who was she and why was she rather blatantly following us. Garrett lead on the whole of the day and well into the night finally stopping at a rather boisterous pub of some ill repute and, as I was to find out later, procured 2 rooms. I followed her a bit longer, long enough anyway to note her subtle attemp to not be interested in our wereabouts but then about 10 minutes latter she just disappeared.
Heading back, Garrett good man that he is was waiting in hopes that I had noticed their stopping for the night, told me his plan and directed me to our rooms while he cased the grounds. His plan was this, get dinner, rest for a moment, then leave through the window over the stable house which faced the back of the building. He is quite clever for a human. That bought us some time but apparently not enough because around midday this strange woman found us again, this time with 2 animal companions. She appeared different in the light of day as well, with red eyes and jaundice mottled skin. Just by looking Protoss could tell that she had given her soul to Nargeth. That was all it took, upon noticing us she unleashed her beasts and started casting herself. Cidra cast a magical web over the street but unfortunately for us it only slowed them down, it was then that one of the creatures bellowed out a banshee like howl and I fled as if all the devils of The Hells were pursuing me. After running back to The Market square I got a sudden jolt, just up ahead approaching very, very slowly was an entire contingent of the Atman Defense League led by a construct of the normal nature they use. At this I was a bit torn between my irrational fear of the banshee wail beast and the contigent so I started to run back, problem being that the closer I got the less able I was to move towards my friends. Hiding did no good either as I had already been seen so I cowered.
Not for long though, Cidra and Darvin approached although they were both really distracted. I tried to get their attention but that was not happening it was a good thing it was as that moment I could move again. I grabbed Darvin and threw Cidra over my shoulder (hope she was not offended by the indignity of it all) pointed to the contigent and ran to Protoss and Grimgore. It was to late, there was another contingent from the north entering the square, we were totally surrounded. Grimgore ran through a butcher shop to check the alley (half dozen gaurds) while the golem read us the charges ordered by our good friend general Garivous which included treason, destruction of government property, etc. Escape was possible, so I thought, thankfully the cooler head of Protoss prevailed. Yes, escape could have been possible but not without the injury or death of some of our associates.
This is were it gets a bit muddled, everything around us suddenly appeared frozen and there came a voice from the north side of the square that began reprimanding us. It was a male voice and he said that we were foolish for the direct and odvious was we were trying to leave the city. As he began pushing his way through the froaen northern contigent we say this well dressed but plain gentleman who continued the repremand saying that he would leave us here as a lesson, that being don't be stupid. We were being svaed by none other than the deity Aranor, and let me tell you, Cidra was completely beside herself. But why do we merit intervention from a deity? Protoss suggested that it means instability, which is the fundamental tenet of the Church of Nargeth coincidently. Instability Chaos Destruction.
Aranor showed us the future, the what could be. A meteor approaches Atma, a beem from the spire hitting it causing it to slow but not stop, all sureal, and then the impact and waves of fire from the crater which actually cause our eyes to water. The view from above was apocolyptic with bodies burning and the din of battle in the distance between survivors and opportunistic looters, orcs, and goblins. All the while of this viewing the diety related to us a story, how his care was not the destruction of the city but the people in it. Change does not have to be great to cause great change. And while fate does end all stories, our choices be they for good or ill have an effect. Aranor has chosen to send us back in time 100 years so that we may get to Fairbough safely and upon our arrival time will revert to the time we are accustomed to. Mallant may need us and have work for us to do, then he dissolved in a cloud of mist and as the mist cleared we noticed the buildings looked a bit different. Things were cleaner, not as old and shabby looking. I spoke to a passer by to inquire the date, the year 928, the outpost Telos will be swept into the ocean in less than a year killing many innocents. After such sage words from a diety about the importance of the lives of the people can we just move along to Fairbough? I think not, we must at least make an attempt to save as many as we can. If we can only save one even. Change does not have to be great to cause great change. Who knows? Certainly not I.
