A Letter Home
The rescue of the innocent
Father,

I regret to inform you that I have not been able to find any information about Brunis, but I will not give up my search. Recently I found myself at the Frost Mug in Barga thinking things over when I overheard two dwarf brothers, Groehl (obviously a cleric), and Rorrin (apparently a rogue)talkng with an odd looking gnome with an even odder name, but we just call him Gim (a druid as i discovered later). They were discussing plans to search for some bandits that had attacked a caravan from Tophome, and kidnapped the daughter of a local gnome named Gnorman Hatsburry. Seeing the opportunity to make some money, I decided to offer my services in hunting down these bandits and rescuing Ezmeralda Hatsburry. As we were talking we were approached by a human named Eoin who offered to join us. In a stroke of brilliance Groehl tricked Eoin into paying my fee in order to join the group. While we were talking Gim managed to attract the attention of a well armed Hobgoblin named Gorgoth, who informed us he was seeking two elven weapons that were stolen from his master.
Later that evening Groehl spoke with a merchant who had been injured by some goblins that had inhabitted the Haversack Mine, so we decided to investigate. Our trip to the mine was quite and peaceful, but near the enterance to the mine Gim discovered a trap in the road. Once inside me and Rorrin too the lead. Rorrin was searching for more traps, but failed to notice the tripwire that dropped the large stones on our heads. Rorrin took the brunt of the damage, but Gim was able to heal his wounds. Further into the mine, I came upon a room with a goblin aiming a crossbow at me. I missed him with my javelin, but Gim's pet wolf, Kano, was able to trip the goblin. Unfortuantelly, it was then that we discovered it was a decoy and the six real goblins were hiding under the beds waiting to ambush us. The battle was fierce but short; I managed to kill three of the goblins, and Kano, Rorrin, and Eoin each took one down.
I sat down to rest from my wounds and the others must not have noticed that I had fallen asleep and was no longer with them, but when I awoke I was awake. By the time I had caught up with them, trouble had befallen them again. They had been attacked by an insect that turned metal to rust, and Eoin and Groehl had lost their armore, and Eoin lost his sword. They had also fought more goblins and two fell drakes (a shame they had to destroy such majestic creatures). Despite these troubles they had managed to find and rescue Ezmerelda, and find the missing supplies from the caravan. They had also found a note telling the goblins to take the drakes to the master at Raven's lake, but we decided to take Ezmerelda to her father before deciding what to do about the note.
Along the road we were ambushed by Gorgoth along with two kobolds. Gorgoth asked us about the elven weapons, which we had determined were the drakes, so we informed him that we were forced to slay them. He was oddly calm about this and said he would take Ezmerelda as payment for the death of the drakes. Gorgoth had found a note on a currior, that said that if the girl trully possessed as much potential as was rumored, to take her to the master at Raven's lake. After seeing how afraid Ezmerelda was of Gorgoth, I couldn't possibly let him take her and we found ourselves in battle once again.
After taking an arrow to the shoulder I charged into combat with Gorgoth, while Kano and Rorrin kept the kobolds busy. Eoin attepmted to help with Gorgoth, but without his armor or a good weapon, he was in no condition to face such a foe (it was a near thing for me as well, without the healing aid of Gim, I may not have survived). After Kano had finished his Kobold he managed to trip Gorgoth and I was able to finish him with a spear through the head, and then struck down the last kobold with a javelin. Gorgoth was a truly powerful warrior, and it was a shame to slay such a worty opponent, but he gave me no choice. when we took a good look at Gorgoths sword, we discovered it was a very well crafted sword (it is my belief he was a leader in the army of the Valley of the Eye). We have now slain two prized drakes of Lord Etrugal along with a Captain in his army, I fear this may have grave consequences but there is no help for that now.
Gnorman was grateful for the return of supplies he had been waiting for, and thrilled beyone words at the return of his daughter. As we spoke with Gnorman, we discovered that his daughter has the ability to use magic, and amazng potential if she can be trained. Gnorman invited us to travel with him to his home of Westdell, as everyone there would most likely want to thank us for the rescue of Ezmerelda. We have decided to travel to westdell with Gnorman; perhaps I will discover something of Brunis there. I can only pray to Shaelan that this journey will be less eventfull than our trip to the Haversack mine, and I will have time to rest and recover from my wounds.
I will write you again soon. May the blessings of Shaelan be upon you and mother.

Your son,
Lochlan
