First Impressions
Throrn, save me from my company!
As we’ve come across the long and treacherous road leading from Citadel to Cobblepot, I realized that I should jot some notes down about my companions.

My first impression of most of the people in my party was not as accurate as what they turned out to be. Take for instance, Gim, who started the mission going on and on about the most random things like the many different names he had and how he preferred the gnomish women or dwarven women because of their lack of facial hair. Although I enjoy a clean shaven woman, I felt the conversation was quite off-color and had nothing to do with anything that I valued. I’ve come to embrace Gim’s quirks even if sometimes he’ll blurt out the purpose of our mission to the creature we’re trying to destroy or the fact that he has no appreciation for the finer things in life like honor and great riches. One of the main reasons I’m fighting is to gain respect for my family’s name, but Gim on the other hand is trying to run as far away from his as he can. I imagine once we hit Cobblepot, Gim will have to embrace his heritage since we’ll need a place to stay and I’m extremely interested in meeting the folks of this young gnome. Despite all of his idiosyncrasies I have learned to enjoy Gim’s abilities and talents that are much more valuable than his outer appearance would give off. He has amazing hearing that makes me nervous when I’m in prayer and he asks me afterwards why I asked for patience when dealing with gnomes. He also displays a great understanding of healing which makes me respect the runt even more. Overall, he’s an asset to the team and I look forward to seeing his progress the more experience we all get in battle.

Another character who had done nothing but disappoint me until recently was my lazy brother Rorrin. He’s been a rogue for quite some time now and it wasn’t until lately that he finally proved his worth in battle. It seems sometimes that he’s afraid to get in there until he gets the right position. I take a different approach to battle and choose to run straight ahead and make the enemy respond to my actions rather than responding to theirs, but alas to each his own and Rorrin has proven himself useful in battle. He’s grown quite fond of Uthren’s blade that we all attained after our encounters with Uthren and Ethera. Growing up I didn’t get to know Rorrin much since I was sent to school at an early age. While he’s only a couple decades behind me in age his maturity seemed to be lacking… especially when it comes to conversing with people. He still seeks comfort in peace and quiet which makes him a good fit for being a rogue but sometimes he needs to show a little more courage and speak up. Too much sneaking around makes me feel uneasy as to what his personal life must be like. He’s a little more chaotic than what I’m comfortable with but he is my brother and I’d still risk my life for him… even though right now he’s the one risking his life for my mission.

Lochlan and I have a certain kinship that has developed over the journey. It’s a quiet respect that started the moment we met when I convinced Eoin to pay Lochlan for his services to help me. Usually, we both find ourselves in the front lines of every battle that we’ve come across. He is doing the damage and I heal his wounds. Relying on each other in battle has brought us closer, to where now I’d welcome him into my house at any time. The only problem with him is that he’s constantly on the search for his lost brother. Now while I respect his desire to help his brother out, I’ve realized through Rorrin that people need time to grow up on their own as well. Hopefully, we’ll find his brother Brunis so he can get a little more information as to why he left and what he’s looking for. I feel it would be honorable to help him find his brother in Cobblepot… it’s the least I can do for him with all the help he’s given me. I especially appreciate his choice in armor. It relieves me to know that there’s someone else who realizes that the more metal you have covering you up the less chances there are to get struck in battle. I’d rather be slow and cumbersome like I am than leave a spot open for an attack. Ultimately, Lochlan is a good fighter and I don’t believe I could have made it this far without his help.

Eoin… now there’s a man I know little about. Sometimes he shows flashes of himself and other times he chooses to rest in the cart or stay in the village like in Westdel. Occasionally, he’s shown that he has skill like when he first used Uthren’s sword to save us from Brochbarrow Hill, but then other times he chooses to take the easy route. I know nothing of his background other than his lack of tact and his gullibility when it comes to money. So far, he hasn’t made much money on this trip which shows me something about his human heritage. Dwarves like me, enjoy the spoils of war which help to establish ones name for honor and rank. I suppose as our travels go on I will learn more about Eoin besides his skill for a blade and his unnatural height.

Lastly, there’s Grizzlegast the goblin. I must say I haven’t met many goblins in my day and the last group I ran into was at the Haversack Mines which didn’t give me a good impression. I find them to be greedy and conniving, although Grizzle has given me a different impression of goblins altogether. Now I realize goblins can be pathetic, insecure, impatient, annoying, and petty too. At least from what I can comprehend, he tells us the truth whenever he can… and sometimes he even knows more about a situation than I think he should. I find his arrogance impressive for a man of his stature but he doesn’t seem to have the blade to back up his mouth. Sometimes I wish he would just follow directions and give information whenever he knew something instead of making us question him like the teacher he thinks he is. I’m sure someday we’ll learn more about why he got kicked out… that is when he gets over the embarrassment of getting captured by some mindless Dwarves of Thurn. For now I’ll take Grizzlegast for what he is… a goblin.
