That Was Some Strong Ale
Looking for Brunis in Cobblepot...
I find the company that I’ve been keeping lately quite interesting. I’ve spent the last few days recooperating from a hangover that I received from drinking with... a barbarian I think. I’m still trying to remember what happened beyond us reaching Cobblepot and going to the Charlie Daniel’s Smokehouse. I seem to to also remember seeing someone from Citadel coming out of a gatehouse... not sure why I remember him but I do. Also, I believe I bumped into Elegond, the bard from Barga, who I probably made an impression on since I was so blessed the night before. After a week or so of sobering up Lochlan decided to go and look for his brother in town. I was pretty excited to finally get a nicer set of armor than the set I had so I suggested we go into town and search the local stores. While their I purchased a masterwork dagger and even had my beloved pick turned into masterwork. I was quite excited with my new weapons to the point that I missed seeing Lochlan with his brother. Eventually, I made it outside but only to witness two assassins approach Lochlan and call him by his brother’s name Brunis.

These were no ordinary rogues, they had nice equipment and the insignia of the Society of Unannounced Acquisitions. They fought well, but there was only three of them and we had the numbers to easily take them out. I noticed much like my brother they tried to work for positioning during the battle. Unlike my brother though, they took the offensive... that is of course until we all backed up towards a wall. Then they had no way of flanking the group.

We tried to discuss the days events with Lochlan but it was obvious he was not in the mood to talk about what his brother had said. I gave him his space and turned my attention to Gim, who I continued pressing to take us to his folks house. It seemed like a good strategy at this point since we didn’t want to be attacked in the night.... so, we made our way there.

It was around three in the morning when we reached the house and again we pressed Gim to go up to the door. Finally, after the third knock or so, his mother came to the door and had the biggest smile on her face when she laid her eyes on her poor Gimsy wimsy... this is the type of gushing that I didn’t expect. I assumed since the lad had no money that his parents had tossed him out, but nonetheless Mr.. Nacklewocket showed much love to Gim and the rest of us. Lochlan seemed moved by the generosity and even explained the danger he was in. Ninwin, Gim’s mother, said she would treat us like we were her own children and that we could stay as long as needed. I took her up on the offer, grabbed a pillow, and quickly went to bed since it was quite late.

In the morning we were introduced to Gim’s father and a monk who had been staying the night in Gim’s bed. His name was Yas. He didn’t say much but when he did speak he insulted my ale which rubbed me wrong. Gim’s mother on the other hand kept putting more and more food down on the table and insisting that we were nothing but skin and bones. Finally, Gim’s father set down his paper and showed his disdain for his son’s actions. I tried to back up Gim and speak well about his abilities in combat but his father just made the situation worse with his disregard for anything positive about his son. Eventually, we decided that it’d be best if we left this tension and went to seek out Brunis again.

While outside Lochlan and Yas were talking about our current situation to the point of even inviting the monk along for the journey. I wasn’t as pleased to have to split our spoils, especially since he was unproven... and exactly the time I started to doubt his abilities Grizzlegast challenged Lochlan to a duel with Yas. Goblin’s are a crafty bunch, not only did he con them into fighting but someone actually paid the goblin a gold for his services thus far... not that I’ve seen any benefit from having his along. Now Yas and Lochlan had a decent battle that took a majority of the afternoon up. After Lochlan turned his weapon around and cracked it on Yas’ skull, Yas decided to wrestle Lochlan to the ground and try to strangle him out. While Lochlan tried his best to get out of the move he was unable to break free. So yes, Yas... or whatever his name is won the fight big deal, it’s not like he defeated an entire graveyard of undead or a hallway full of spiders. Although I do respect Lochlan so I’ll give him credit for that, but he would have never defeated me.

After the tussle we ventured to the local bars looking for information about Brunis. It didn’t take us long to find a note detailing Brunis’ plan for world domination, or all the riches in the world.. I don’t remember much about it since it was obviously the rambling of a fool, but if he’s a fool what does that make us for following the fool. Personally, I just wanted some adventure since the Lochlan battle gave me a thirst for battle. So, we all decided to venture to this warehouse and look for “something”. Not really sure what but Rorrin was able to see anything peculiar when he checked it out. After some debate Grizzlegast grabbed a pebble and held it up in the air. Suddenly, we realized that he made us all silent for the moment. Rorrin took advantage of the situation to sneak into the warehouse only to find four members of the S.O.U.A sitting there playing cards.

Now that wasn’t anything unusual until I noticed that there actually wasn’t anyone there. It seemed that these people were being projected here somehow. Suddenly four swords dropped from the crates above and started attacking us. At first Eoin, the moronic knight, thought there was a rogue holding them and decided to swing at nothing. Of course, he hit nothing. Most of our attacks weren’t doing much damage and the swords even managed to knock Yas unconscious. The group was in dire need of an answer so I looked towards Throrn and he gave me a magical sword that helped me to vanquish the remaining two swords that were in this room. During most of the fight Gim was searching out the warehouse since he thought more traps might be around the corner and he did indeed find something. We realized we should be cautious in searching out the rest of the building and proceeded carefully...
