Beneath The Streets Of Citadel - Part Three
The End of the Flayer Menace.
The flayer attacked. His magic came of no where. I moved into the back room to find only the bone pile. He had to be back in the main chamber.

The bastard had hidden himself on a ledge near the ceiling. He had gotten the drop on us and now we were at a disadvantage. The was a good amount of distance between most of us and him, not to mention a decent climb to get up to him. I would have to rush him to get close and avoid his magic.

As those of us who needed to get close to fight rushed forward the casters of the party went to work. Kelthis, Nameless, Groehl, and even Esmerelda unleashed vicious magical assaults upon the flayers. His became a black silhouette amid and whirlwind of churning fire and arcane energy. The blackened corpse fell to the floor of the cavern, smoke still rose from small fires in the cloth fragments and smoldering flesh.

All that was left that identified the body as a mindflayer was the blackened tentacled head. The scars from Gims claws still showed through the burn. I would make a fine trophy.

During the fight Nameless had been affected my the flayers mind control and turned on us. His hood which he has always been so careful to keep covering his head fell back to reveal his true face. Strange patches of scales and red eyes marked him as someone who had been changed by dark arts. He told a his tale of woe and betrayal, which Rashaad refused to accept as truth and this lead to an argument of religion and other things which I have no interest involving myself so I let them argue. I had something else in mind.
