Orcs, Barbarians, Clerics And Undead Oh My!
My Family,
A great many things has happened since the last time I had a moment to write. I worry now that these letters may never make it to you. I have seen death, and it is not pretty. I have seen a great battle, and fought a good fight. I killed many selladorians, and though I felt nothing during the battle I am hesitant to fight in such a battle again. However I am getting ahead of myself. First let me begin with my new blade. That is correct I have replaced Goodstrike, Rirdan’s sword. I intend on holding on to it, and returning it to the Cutlanger line when I am able to send these letters. I now possess the black bladed fang of a dragon. We recovered this blade along with several maps, and plans when we rescued a friend of ours.
Her name is Renee, and she is a young human sorcerer under the tutelage of Jaxom, one of the leaders of our little army. She was accompanying us on our venture to discover the plans of the orcish army in the mountains. We were scouting when she fell down the hill into the orc camp. After much adieu we decided she was taken, and began to leave. On our road we encountered Larzeks, and he told us to go back while the orcs were asleep, and rescue our friend. He told us that the orcs had been very strange lately, and for some reason were showing an unusual affinity for magic, and its artisans. So we went back to the camp, and snuck in. We entered a cave, and eventually found an orcish chieftain who challenged us to one on one combat. Being foolish and honorable on this day, we were all bested in combat, and our thief friend perished before Roven was able to run to Larzeks, who came and vanquished our foe.
The loss of our friend Adrienne was a very hard thing to accept, but we were forced to move on before we could grieve. We were afraid more orcs might show up, and slaughter us all. We traveled back to Tuallen, and reported to Gavin, and were allowed to rest while they went over the information we had received. The information was used to alter our battle plan for the war that was to be waged in the following days. On the morn of the battle we were introduced to quite possibly the largest human I have yet encountered. His name is Argoth, he is the son o a barbarian chieftain, from a tribe that apparently owes a favor to the kingdom of Gideon. He carries an extremely large axe with two blade and inelegant weapon to be sure, but in his hands it truly sings. In our time off we were also able to acquaint ourselves better with out new companion Astrid. She is a cleric of Eloele the goddess of Thieves, and Rogues. An interesting choice and certainly a questionable one, however her healing touch was very welcome on the field of battle. In the middle of our fight the orcs swarmed onto the field, but were no threat to Gideon’s forces thanks to the intelligence we had gathered. Soon enough however swarms of undead began to flank the other side of the battle, forces were rushed to that side, but the undead were of course relentless. I have never seen such horror. All of the slain on the field were getting up as zombies, and soon the clerics of both Gideon, and Sellador were wholly focused on driving back the undead hoards. Soon the battle was called to a halt so that both sides could regroup, but the undead just kept coming. The clerics and paladins of both armies continued to turn back the undead, and began a rotation. After several days the problem was more under control, and our commanders came to us to explore the origins of the undead, they were coming though the swamp and we have been ordered through the marsh to discover what we may on the other side, and hopefully wipe it out.
After seeing what we are up against though I am not sure of our victory. Argoth, and Astrid certainly add a lot of wallop to our party, but any creature that can create such an army of the undead as I have seen I fear will be completely beyond us. I fear these letters may never make it to you. If they ever make it into elven hands however I would hope they are made public, and all elves are able to read of the great deeds these humans have done. If they have seen fighting undead like this for years, we have much to thank them for. If these undead were to bridge the straight to the forbidden lands they might destroy the elven defenses that were set for human invasion. If the undead gained access to the whole of Tel-Tenauril I cannot fathom the destruction they would wreak before they were in check. I shudder at the thought, and I leave you with that as I have said too much, and do not wish to frighten you. Perhaps this will all be long in the past very soon, and I will have worried for nothing.
