For Liberty And All
Journal 22 of the Heralds Of The Dawn.
The worst thing in this world is to feel as if you’ve failed before you ever had the chance to truly begin. To know that if you’d accepted your duties, your responsibility sooner, than maybe you could have done more to protect innocent people. No matter how much these thoughts haunt me, the closer I come to the realization that they’re useless. To focus on the what-ifs of the past only create more what-ifs in the future.

Today we met with the Elven king again; he informed us of his plans. It seems that the wise and glorious King Dalenurell has brought it upon himself to bring upon a decisive end to the petty little war with the pesky humans. To do this, it seems, he seeks a weapon so powerful, that if only by threat alone, he will forever turn the tides of power and force the human race into eternal submission and slavery. Needless to say, I’m not too happy about all of this. Part of me can understand a rulers need to bring about a quick end to a war, but to do it by threat of mass genocide, now that is just ridicules.

He speaks in a tone that lends credence to the fact that he thinks nothing more of the human race than a herd of cattle that needs to be thinned down. I understand that the Elves live to be what could be considered an eternity, but just because we don’t have the luxury of such time doesn’t mean that we deserve to have what time we do have cut short and/or transformed into something that would be utterly meaningless.

The biggest insult of all of this comes from the fact that he thinks that he can recruit our help to bring about this end with no explanation why. He excepts myself and the rest of us to lay down not only our rights but the rights of every man, woman, and child in Selador. Who does this guy think he is?

Now more than ever I can truly appreciate the true travesty of this conflict. It is not the Elven king who is suffering anymore than it is the Church of Aesia, it is the people who have been caught in the middle of this holy war, this Jihad. And who exactly is representing their rights in all of this, whether they be human or elf? Who is it that is making sure that the rights of the people to live their lives free and happy? Right now, no one.

That is why it is now more than ever that I must take up the sword. I see now that my calling as king of Gideon holds a greater meaning than just to take a throne. It is to fight for what is right. The law has failed the people. The rules as they stand, do not work. It is up to me to make sure they have a voice. That is why I must do what it is that I must do. The Elven king has asked us to go fulfill an ancient pact for him. To find and procure a weapon of great destruction for his uses. As he is attempting to use us for his purpose, I will use him for mine, I will travel along with Jerick, Marrol and Dean, I will find this weapon, but I will not do it on behalf of the great King Dalenurell, I will do it to make sure that he never gets his hand on such a weapon. There must be another way to end this war. I will not betray the people of Selador, whether or not they have already accepted me for their king. I will stand for their rights. I will stop this tyranny.
