This spell belongs to the conjuration school of magic. Burning Obsidian Rupture
Causes the ground to split open spewing magma and obsidian shards.
Conjuration (Creation)
Level: Drd 4, Sor/Wiz 3
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 Action
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5ft / 2 levels)
Area: One 5 ft. square for every 2 caster levels in a continuous path.
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Reflex Half
Spell Resistance: No

This spell causes the ground to split open spewing magma and obsidian shards. Any creature caught in the area must make a reflex save or suffer 1d4+1 slashing damage per caster level to a maximum of 10d4 and an additional 1 point of fire damage per caster level to a maximum of +10.

Part of the damage dealt by this spell is physical slashing damage, thus damage reduction applies to all but the fire damage. Additionally, the spell only affects creatures that are touching the natural earth in some way, thus this spell would not function on the second floor of a castle, although it would function in the basement, which is close enough to the earth. It does not have effect on flying creatures unless those creatures are within 5 feet of the ground.

The area of effect of this spell cannot overlap itself and must be in a continuous line. If a creature occupies more than one of the areas affected by this spell, such as a large creature might, it only makes a single save and only takes damage once.

The material component of this spell is a handful of burnt shards of obsidian shards and ash worth at least 10 gp which are hurled at the ground during casting.
