On Jerick
The rest of his companions had long gone to sleep. The half-breed and himself were walking through the wilderness, taking a joint watch. He knew that Jerick felt the same kinship to these woods as he did, so he appreciated his company.

Once in a while, he would insult the half elf in some way so that he didn’t feel special.

Trying to explain the metaphysics of transmutation to him, Jerick looked over, and it was apparent that he had no idea what he was talking about.

Although he couldn’t grasp the rest of the concepts laid before him in words, Jerick had some potential. He would have to be tempered in the cold waters of his family's water tomb, and Blake would never do that to his friend. Perhaps his path went away from wizarding.

Being the only one that didn’t question Blake’s loyalty when he uncovered the knowledge of his family to his friends, Blake implicitly trusted Jerick. He hoped that wouldn’t change, for Jerick's sake.
