Puppy-butt
a jackal companion
His name is Hurengar. It means "puppy-butt." Not a very dignified name, I suppose but understandable for an animal not yet mature. He's a small gold and black canine in perhaps his 7 month. He is almost full grown but he plays like a puppy still. His ears are very large for his head and his muzzle is very pointed. Yet he is intellegent and very quick, so his training should not be too difficult.

He came to me one night on watch. He seemed to be following out trail as be headed south through the grasslands. Telarial says she has seen others of his kind hunting in the grass but none alone. I think he may have been scavenging off of my hunting. (Which has been so easy that I have on occasion brought in more than can be used. He just sat there on the edge of camp for a while before coming to sit beside me. In the morning he showed no fear or hesitancy around the elves, so I accepted him. In many ways it is nice not to be so alone. Even Squishy (a name Jorag despised for an owl) wasn't as companionable as Puppy-butt.

As far as his name is concerned I shall give him a new name when he reaches maturity, but for now Puppy-butt suits.
