The Real Fear
We're in the pit. A hole in the middle of this dungeon. I needed to take a breather after this trek. I mean, I almost died tonight.

I think the nervousness set in when I first heard innocent Dolartu down there shouting something about not wanting to take his clothes off. Not that I have a real problem with nakedness, but he did have tentacles once.

In hindsight, I thing resting was a mistake. We ended up in a tough battle worse off than when we started. Weaker, umm, physically, like a total drain. So we get down and we're standing in a misty room. Ahh magic. One of my banes; something I fear I will never understand. The only thing in the room with us and the mist was a little boy. A little boy who was crying. He doesn't want us there. He couldn't hold them off for long. Did he really think we wanted to be there? Oh, too late.

And then there's this worm-thing and it rushes out of the shadows. It's waving its tentacles, lashing at us. Then it sprays acid. Alana got a facefull. I've never seen acid work like that before. You knew she was just gone. New guy made some of those creatures and they went to work pouncing and tearing the thing apart. Then it became a demon with squigly glowing lines all over it. The creature gutpunched me and it was like something in me just, gave away. More so than the my ribs which I felt snap beneath the meaty right hook. Now, I have been nervous before. I've been scared. I have felt fear created by magic. I don't think I have ever known the real fear of "Wow, I think I may really be ending it here. Laying on the ground in a dungeon with Alana's bubbling remains a few feet away. Well balls. I was supposed to go a rich old lady in bed with a young stallion."

I was, however, revived a short while later. The beast gone and three half-women standing before us. The other half was snakelike. They basically offered us three wishes. The first New G-, I mean Nyran used to bring back Alana. Have to give him a point for that. The second gave a bow to Anwar. Powerful gift indeed. The third offers the gift of wisdom. Islan takes it upon himself to ask for the knowledge of how to use the crystals. I'm not sure if that was the smartest thing he's ever done, considering that he cried out and started switching. But I can understand it. I don't think he's ever really forgiven himself for "creating" me or bringing me back to life or whatever he did. But I think he sees it as a mistake. Kinda hard to explain. Maybe I'll ask him one day.
