At Verdain Keep
Journal 05 of the Heralds Of The Dawn.
Finally after about fourteen days we have found out way to the Verdain Family keep. Our mysterious friend in black was gone by the time I awoke on the eighth morning, leaving us with no reason for his being there other than he was the brother of a man named Blake. I do not know who Blake is, but the name seems to cause a chill to run down the spines of my companions. Only Jerick seems to know why our strange friend came to us, but he doesn’t seem to feel it necessary to share. I wonder if all elves are this secretive.

The last day of our travel was the worst as we were forced to travel through barren land for quite a distance, as there is no forest covering the landscape surrounding the keep. It was quite unsettling; being in the open for so long, as I know the church would love to get their hands on us. Thankfully, we traveled with no incident.

Upon arriving at the keep, I found no sign of life. It didn’t appear that anyone had been here for years. I found no tracks, nothing. Even the door was left open, swinging back and forth in the breeze, as if this place were abandoned for years. Much to my surprise however upon knocking on the door to the tower we were met by Daniel’s companions who had left ahead of us to prepare. They must have covered their tracks perfectly, as I found absolutely no sign of them. Perhaps I will need to speak to them of their methods. As I obviously have something to learn of tracking if I missed a convoy of people.

We have been shown to a room in the basement for the night where we are to rest. I’m not so sure about this place. I get an eerie feeling being here. I wish I could figure out what it is, it’s as if the walls here speak to me, as strange as that may sound. But I lack the words to describe the feeling I get being here, I just hope we leave soon, as everyone appears restless, except Daniel, who feels at home here. I wish I could feel that way right now, but this keep is like foreign territory to me, but even that doesn’t feel right.
