As we walked through the sludge in the burnt out remains of Nolan’s home, I had a foreboding feeling. Out of the corner of my eye I saw something. Upon further investigation I found the body of a very young girl. The sadness inside of me grows with every death I see. I built a proper pyre, and during this time noticed Nolan’s reaction was one of increased grief also. Was this someone he knew? A family member, his own daughter, suddenly my grief seemed unimportant compared to the grief of others. Not only must I complete this quest to end my own sadness, but for all those who suffer from this evil. After a short time of exploration we saw a writhing mass in the distance we managed to destroy the first one, but not without a cost Alawan was afflicted with some sort of curse. His form was shifting and writhing we took him to the wagon after his form was magically fixed; we began searching for a scroll, or spell that would stop the curse rather than temporarily holding it. We found one just in time, but we lost Nolan to more of the beasts before we finally defeated all of them.
That night I performed yet another funeral, but this one was a little different because I know that Nolan now rests with his people in peace…
