The Wild Underdark
Trapped at unimaginable depths our spirits were nearly stretched to the breaking point. We had wondered these caves for too long before we found the city. The stress wore on everyone in a different way, I myself was having nightmares with more increasing frequency, I have taken to deep meditation instead of sleep to avoid these. My own guilt from the loss of lives I could not prevent was wearing my nerves thin, only weeks before I had seen the lifeless form of my leader and adopted father murdered by the Illithid that led us to this place. Hoargoth is quickly growing hostile and wary, I do not think that these small caves suit his large stature well, and I believe he is very bothered as well. The only member of our company at peace with where we are is Marrol, whose spirit seems to have increased, but who has also gained a sense of responsibility I had not previously noticed in her. Alawan’s grumbles are those simple ones of food and comfort. Varian seems to have lost some of his sprightly demeanor and is missing more and more frequently from our number. Then we reached the city an ancient abandoned city that Marrol told us was the original home of her people before the mind flayers awoke to destroy it. From this city Marrol has hopes of finding solid paths to her own home and some possible aid to us. And she was right, however long and indirect our path was she did indeed lead us true. While here we faced many monsters and strange things unlike any we had seen before, but we also faced many of our own inner demons, or so we thought, but what we had waiting for us in our near future we would truly see our own demons.
