Illusion In The Underdark
No flayers but one big golem
Tricked again! When we entered the final chamber there was no sign of the iron golem but there were three mind flayers at one end of the room. We immediately attacked and one by one we discovered all three flayers were illusions. Whats worse is that while we were distracted by these an iron golem, with an invisibility spell on it, ambushed Gim. Gim, Koden, and Hunter were trying to fight it by instinct, not being able to see their target made it a challenge.

Tenedos figured out a way to solve the problem. He pulled out a sack of flower, I cant believe he just carries flower around with him just in case, and threw it where the golem should be. It burst into a cloud of white, coating the lower half of the golem and parts of the upper torso. We attacked the metal creature doing little damage. Groehl, Tenedos, and I began searching the walls for secret doors of chambers, hoping the master or controller was nearby.

Unfortunately our searching was useless, and doing little damage we decided to fall back and regroup. Derrinar and our stone friend used their magic to trap the golem in the cave floor, giving us time to fall back. My plan was to return to the room of bones and search there for any hidden chambers. Hunter and I reached the chamber roughly the same time. He had extinguished his torch and tried to wait in stealth but for once I had given up on stealth completely. There was no use in surprising a creature that I could hardly do a bit of damage too.

I headed straight into the room and to my surprise there was a open door in the back corner. Hunter took up position with a line of sight down the new tunnel. I entered in front of him. There was noise, as if someone were moving things around. I held my blades ready and moved forward. An armored dwarf stepped out in front of me, it took me a second to recognize him for one of the dwarf thralls we left below.

At first I thought he was once again under the flayers control, but when he spoke I believed him to have finally broken free. He quickly joined the fight and prepared with everyone else to stand against the coming golem. I slipped into the back room, I wanted to search in the next to impossible chance that the item I seek made its way into the flayers grasp. Unfortunately I didn’t see anything in my quick search but I will check more thoroughly later. I highly doubt it is there.

The golem finally caught up to use. I had drawn my flail but I realized there was really no chance of me doing any real damage to the creature. I held back in case I was needed to help in some way. My help was not needed. With the Sergent, Gim, Kodan, and the other dwarf all hammering on it, Hunter launching arrow after arrow, and Tenedos casting his spells the golem was brought down.

Where are the flayers? I will need to search the rest of this lair again to make sure I did not miss anything. But first to search that back room.
