The Cave And Recovered Treasure
Travels through the Haversack Mines
In the morning we headed out toward the southwest even though I assured the group that we should just head east. After much travel we found the road we were looking for and took that until we reached the mouth of the Haversack Mines. Along the path, I found the climb pretty difficult and even fell to the point of greatly bruising myself. I was able to recover gracefully but my embarrassment showed on my face. Just outside the cave Gim stopped us all and carefully pulled up a cloak revealing a trap with a large amount of scorpions hidden underneath. Grateful for the save we thanked Gim and continued on our journey.

Once inside we let Lochlan lead us along with my brother, who was supposed to be a trap finder. Even though he missed the one outside along with the one right inside the cave which had a large amount of bricks fall on his head. Gim found the trap funny at first until he realized Rorrin was seriously hurt and needed my help in healing. Shortly there after we found a bend in the road and it shortened up. Gim who was listening, overheard some goblins up ahead and we decided to rush in and take them on. Lochlan again was the first to enter and found himself targeted by a goblin covered in a cloth aiming a crossbow at him. We all eventually entered the battle charging what we thought was a goblin but then I noticed one of the crafty goblins stroking his crossbow and waiting for the right moment to unleash it on us. The room was just filled with goblins hiding under some beds which appeared to be their barracks. Two of the goblins that were close to me kept swinging at my feet with their maces. I was frustrated that I was not able to attack back with success so I tried my hardest to keep the battle a success by healing my traveling companions. For a time I didn’t think my brother who appeared to be a sneaky fighter would even got a swing off but after a little help from me flanking one of the goblin’s we were able to overtake it. The Shaman did most of the killing while I kept the group healed up.
Encouraged from our victory we searched the surrounding room and were able to find a healing rod and some silver coins. As the healer of the group I assumed responsibility on the rod as we continued venturing through the caves. We exited the room and walked down the next hallway only to hear a strange scattering through the darkness. My brother peered through the hall, walked ahead of the group, and spotted a large insect creature with a rope tied to it. He warned us of the creature and Eoin charged forth to take on the beast. With his first swing the mercenary sunk his sword deep inside. I was sure the wound would have greatly injured the insect but it appeared to have rusted the merc’s sword into nothing but a leather strap. Confused by the interaction I stepped back to witness the beast turn his stare at me.

We then realized that the rope tied ‘round it’s waist held the beast at a certain point. Using this fact to our advantage we stayed at a distance until the rust monster tore through the rope and lashed his fangs out to dissolve my armor and shield. Eventually, Gim’s wolf was able to tear the insect apart and we were able to venture on. After making it to the end of the hallway we saw a collapsed wooden contraption that looked like the insect was lifting up and down. I, Rorrin, Lochlan, and Eoin climbed down the hole. We tried to use a pulley system to lower Gim and his wolf but they proved to be too heavy for us to lift. They ended up falling and suffering great wounds. I then used my rod to heal them until they were feeling more aware.
Gim noticed a door in the room we were in and sent his wolf barging in. I realized this was not the best strategy but not until the wolf was taken down by the goblin rogues inside. Although we outnumbered them we found ourselves in trouble fighting without our metal armor. I was expecting Gim to give another lecture about not needing worldy possessions but instead he was heartbroken about his wolf. I decided to give him the rod so he could heal with wolf giving me an opportunity to deal some damage. I was using a goblin mace that Rorrin had pulled from a previous encounter. With our combined efforts we eventually destroyed the goblin rogues and the weak goblin who was hiding behind a table.

Once inside the room we noticed a treasure and a young gnomish girl. I check the girl to see if she was safe and then asked if she knew what was in the treasure. Just as she started to answer to dragon creatures came through a curtain leading to a back room. There was only two of them so we handled them with ease now that we were in the open and not confined in a room like the last fight. After searching through the remainder of the treasure we found many weapons, some gold, and a letter. With some thought I realized that the beasts were the treasures that the hobgoblin was looking for and that he would not be pleased with our destruction of them. We all decided to rest for the evening and start up the next day. Although I could tell Rorrin had something he wanted to tell the group about I didn’t press him and figured he’d talk when he thought the timing was better. So, we all took shifts in the night and slept to regain our energy.
